"That's a perfect description, yes," agrees Danielle. "I Quit is essentially a slogan. You have to consciously practice ignoring the noise and saying, 'It doesn't matter to me what people think'."

Development of Music

That recent toughness demanded a different sonic direction – more organic and powerful than any of the music the band had done before.

For Danielle, who helped produce the album, that began with the drums.

"Percussion is such a specific thing, and I focus so intensely about it," she states.

"'Journey of the drum sound' will be the name of our biography," laughs Alana. "I always say, our albums cannot begin until we find the right drum sound."

Experiences and Collective Camaraderie

The band's honesty inspired the album's marketing, where the sisters disclosed some of their dating tales.

Someone broke up with Este over a medical consideration. Alana told a story of flying to spend New Year's Eve with someone, only to receive a high five at midnight.

"When you're going through these setbacks, you just feel like there's only darkness," says Alana. "Thus to be able to share those stories and hear others tell you even crazier stories, it's so amazing."

A Secure Legacy
